Hypnosis and Young Minds

Hypnosis and children

I have been graced to work with many children to help them alleviate anxiety, fear, harmful habits, advance in their sport, etc. Children have such wonderful imaginations that they can induce the hypnotic state easily and rapidly, they are open to exploring new things and are constantly learning which makes it so easy to work with their subconscious mind and create the desired positive change.

Hypnosis sessions often involve teaching a child how to hypnotize their self. This allows them to feel in control and empowered. I teach the child to use relaxation and breathing techniques to allow space to calm, focus and achieve their goal which is used throughout their daily lives.

Because children are in a state of hypnosis most of their day it’s very important to be conscious of our actions and what we say to them. Their minds are like sponges and absorb everything said, done and hold on to their feelings. Children are influenced by parents, teachers, peers and coaches. Statements like “You’re bad or what’s the matter with you.” can become a program that runs in the subconscious mind which becomes a belief and creates negative self talk, fears, anxiety, low self-esteem, and possible issues in adulthood.

If a child hears that they are wonderful and good, the program that runs in the subconscious mind becomes a belief, creates positive self talk and high self-esteem, creating a confident self supported adult.

If there is trauma like being bitten by a dog, the loss of someone or something, the child develops a fear and the subconscious mind holds on to the fear to protect the child. Sometimes the protection that was created in early life no longer serves later in life. The subconscious keeps our heart beating and yet it doesn’t know the difference from reality and illusion. So, that child or adult that was once bitten is still very fearful and anxious of all dogs even though they are not in danger.

Hypnosis works so well for children because they don’t have years of conditioning or resistance. Below are issues that I’ve seen hypnosis help children also overcome.
